We are delighted to announce that we have been appointed, along with a panel of other Architects and employer’s agents, onto Thirteen Group’s strategic development framework for both the North East, and Yorkshire and Humber regions. HMH Architects look forward to continuing its working relationship with Thirteen Group and we are excited to help deliver on their ambitious development plans over the next few years. Recently completed development of 25 bungalows and 3 houses in South Bank, for Thirteen Group. Introducing HMH Architects Ltd.
In 1991 we began trading as a Partnership under the name HMH Architects. Our lineage, as a continuing practice, can be traced back to 1953 with E D Jefferiss Mathews OBE; a notable Architect and Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA). This month brings a new chapter in our history as we became a Private Limited Company! Watch this space for more exciting updates to come as HMH Architects Ltd look to continue the legacy and expand. Having taken over the practice in January this year I have overseen multiple changes, but none quite as exciting as this or what’s to come over the next few months! I look forward to sharing our evolution / journey with you all as we go. Watch this space! David Since 1995 HMH Architects have comprised two partners, John Kinmond and Andrew Watson, both having worked for the practice since 1977 and 1987 respectively. Following John’s retirement in April 2018, Andrew carried on the practice as Principal, supported by myself as Associate Partner.
With great sadness Andrew passed away in December 2021. For some years we spoke of succession in the practice and of Andrew making me a Partner. However, due to various circumstances, the time was not right. In January, I took over the business with the aim of carrying on Andrew’s legacy as well as those he worked alongside, and before him. Andrew was a mentor and Architect of great knowledge, experience and distinction, but most of all a great man and someone who will be missed greatly by all who knew him. It is my privilege and motivation to carry on Andrew’s work and to continue to grow and make HMH Architects a success. Recently we have moved premises from Enterprise House in Team Valley, where we were been based since 1985, to the Design Works in Felling, It is an exciting move which should help provide further opportunities and potential for growth. I look forward to an exciting period ahead and I would like to thank our loyal client base for their continued support. Thank you, David McKellar We are delighted to announce some double award success for St. Cuthbert’s and our partners Karbon Homes.
The scheme was announced as the winner of the prestigious Northern Housing Awards Supported / Sheltered Housing Scheme of the Year 2021. St Cuthbert's is a £6.7m development of 38 supported flats for older residents located in a Conservation Area at the heart of the historic market town of Hexham. The building was built on a challenging site, long, narrow and sloping, enclosed on 3 sides by existing housing. The sponsor of the award, Karen Owens, from Procare, said: "We have had so much positive feedback from the judges about this category, and in particular, this St Cuthbert's scheme demonstrates how difficult sites can be to transform and how flexible design supports independent living going forward." We would like to extend our thanks to Karbon Homes as well as our development colleagues at Tolent Construction, 3e Consulting Engineers and project managers Hall & Partners, as well as all those involved in the project which have made it a success. In addition, we are also delighted to announce that the St Cuthbert's scheme has been shortlisted for the Inside Housing Development Awards 2021! Our partners at Karbon Homes entered the scheme for the Best Older People's Housing Development (Rural and Suburban) category. This year’s awards have seen a record number of entries, with the scheme shortlisted from 300 entrants. The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on Thursday 4 November 2021. Again, well done to all those involved with the scheme.
